Despite our OPU efforts, the Czech Republic will not cross its shadow and has not offered for 2024 and 2025 a single place for resettlement or humanitarian admission of refugees. Meanwhile, refugees, especially vulnerable and in acute danger, will be screened and selected by UNHCR from crisis areas. Thus, the government continues its policy of non-cooperation and unwillingness to accept anyone voluntarily, even though the Czech resettlement programme operated successfully until 2015. In the past, the country has resettled refugees from Maynmar, Uzbekistan, Cuba. etc.. Many communities and organisations have been involved in successful integration. Germany offered to admit the largest number of people (13,000), but also countries such as Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia have offered hundreds of places. OPU Director Mr. Martin Rozumek sadly commented: „It is again a European and international shame of the Czech Republic, I expected and urged the Fiala government to be more open and compassionate.“ Attached is a table of resettlement places offered by EU countries in 2024 and 2025.
