Dangerous new priority of the Czech Presidency – Instrumentalisation Regulation

OPU is against the so called Instrumentalisation Regulation that has become a sudden new priority of the Czech Presidency in the EU. If adopted, the Instrumentalisation Regulation would allow Member States affected by arrivals of refugees misused or instrumentalised by regimes such as in Belarus, Turkey or Russia to derogate from their basic rights enshrined in the international and EU law.
Martin Rozumek, OPU Director, notes: “In case a dictator plays the refugee card and sends refugees to the EU, the EU states should put their pressure on the dictator and not quickly agree to take away the basic human and procedural rights from refugees – the victims of such bad behaviour. We call on Czech politicians to stop the negotiations of this Regulation” The joint statement of ECRE organisations against the Regulation is attached.
