On 6.11.2017 the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights – Committee on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (UN-OHCHR CEDAW) issued an interim measure, obliging the Czech Republic to refrain from expelling the asylum seeker Ms. X to Ghana. This is the first time this committee deals with a complaint regarding the asylum procedure in the Czech Republic. Ms. X tried to apply for asylum at the Prague Vaclav Havel International Airport in September 2017, but according to her statement her application was not accepted. Instead of initiating the asylum procedure, Ms. X was arrested, escorted to prison and sentenced to expulsion. Ms. X is a victim of domestic violence in Ghana, while the local state authorities were unable to protect her. According to OPU, if expelling Ms. X, the Czech Republic could breach The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women as well as other international legal obligations. Organization for Aid to Refugees has been monitoring also other cases of asylum seekers describing obstacles to apply for asylum at the Vaclav Havel International Airport Prague.
