Umbrella March in Prague to mark World Refugee Day
The first ever European Umbrella March in Prague will be organised by the Consortium of Migrant Assisting Organisations in the Czech Republic and its nine member NGOs. The Umbrella March will take place on Monday 20 June 2011 starting at 9 am from the “horse” on Wenceslas square.
We will walk together, a hundred white umbrellas in hand, through Old Town square and across the river to the Office of the Government to hand over a letter calling for the reduction in the duration of asylum procedures.
There was a time when Czech people themselves sought asylum in other countries because they were persecuted at home, and we would like to remind the general public and Czech politicians today that now it is our turn to take responsibility a help those escaping from war, hunger and persecution.
Meet us on Wenceslas Square on 20 June at 9 am to show that you are not willing to ignore the situation hundreds of refugees find themselves in while they wait to be granted asylum in our country.
